This band has had an incredible year. The group placed third at the 2017 International Blues Competition in Memphis, TN. Then they put out an album called “Better Than I Was,” produced by Kivett Bednar, which won a Muddy Award for best album of the year. When they played the Waterfront Blues Festival the album sold out. Rae Gordon is quickly becoming one of the biggest voices in modern blues. The Rae Gordon Band will be at the Safeway Waterfront Blues Festival 2018 on the South Stage.
The Pining Hearts is a psych-surf-garage band out of PDX. They just won Best Indie-Rock Band and Best Local Band for Willamette Week’s Best of Portland 2017, and released a single called “Mona” that received over 8,000 listens on Soundcloud in just a few days after its release. The group has played sold-out shows at Alberta Street Pub, Twilight Cafe, and Doug Fir Lounge.
Released on limited edition red vinyl in 2014, only 500 were made. Land of the Living is the duo effort of Kivett Bednar on guitar/vox and Anthony Pausic on drums. Although firmly rooted in the blues tradition, the album tries to incorporate guitar tones from heavier influences such as doom and stoner-rock.
